About Outlook Live

Microsoft Exchange LabsRockhurst University has teamed up with Microsoft to provide students with a better email experience. We utilize Microsoft's Outlook Live service (previously called Exchange Labs) which is hosted in Microsoft's secure datacenters to give all of our students a lifetime email address.

The instructions apply only to student email. Employee mail is handled through onsite Exchange servers.

What's my new e-mail address?
Your new e-mail address is in the format of YourRockhurstUsername@hawks.rockhurst.edu - YourRockhurstUsername is usually your lastname followed by your first initial, or an additional middle initial for common names (ex: SmithJL)

How do I access my new email account?
You can access your account through the my.rockhurst.edu portal or directly at www.outlook.com - however, before you can access your account for the first time, you will need to change your password from a Rockhurst computer or through our Password Reset web page. This will allow your Rockhurst password to be synchronized to your new email account.

The first time you access the service you will need to register some details with Microsoft. Make sure to enter any requested information correctly as this will be used to recover your password or gain access to your account after you are no longer a Rockhust student.

Please note, your Windows Live ID (username) for Outlook Live is your full "YourRockhurstUsername@hawks.rockhurst.edu" email, not just "YourRockhurstUsername" that you'd use for other campus systems. (ex: SmithJL@hawks.rockhurst.edu)

I was a student when you had your old email system, where are those messages?
We discontinued access to our old student email system on June 1, 2009. This was many months after Outlook Live was brought online. All previous accounts were terminated and the data cannot be recovered. However, if you leave Rockhurst and come back with your new email account, you will not have any data loss and infact you can continue using your email account when you're not a student... something that was not possible with the previous system.

How do I change my password?
You can change your password from any Rockhurst computer or visit the Help site at http://help.rockhurst.edu and click Password/PIN Reset at the top of the page. Your password will be synchronized to your Outlook Live mailbox. For more information on password restrictions or requirements see the Passwords & Accounts section of the Help site. You should avoid changing your password from within the Outlook Live interface until after you are no longer a Rockhurst student. Doing so will break the syncronization and require you to change your Rockhurst network password to continue using the service.
