About Cisco Clean Access

Our student resident hall network used to be overwhelmed at times during the normal academic year due to virus and worm attacks. The purpose of Cisco Clean Access (CCA) is to help prevent “infected” systems from gaining access to the network and infecting other systems. The result should be good, consistent network availability.

In order to use our network, even for basic Internet access, we require users of Microsoft Windows operating systems to run the Cisco Clean Access Agent. The agent will validate your network username and password, then scan your machine for vulnerabilities. Once you have been verified as a trusted user and your computer is deemed "clean", you will be allowed normal access to the network.

There are four major criteria for gaining access to the network. If you meet all four, you will be allowed access.

  1. Valid Rockhurst network account.
  2. Current Cisco Clean Access Agent software installed on your machine.
Download (9.6MB, .exe Installer for Windows)
  3. Have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0 or 8.5 with the most current virus definitions. This software is provided for free to all university employees and students. Visit the McAfee Anti-Virus page for more information on obtaining this package.
  4. Have all Microsoft issued updates and service packs installed for your operating system.

CCA is active in all residence halls, on all wireless access points, and open ports on the main campus.

Macintosh users and Linux users will have to use the solution only to authenticate to the network through a web browser, but currently we do not require an agent or perform checks on these systems.
