Rockhurst is proud to offer the new Intelliprint Multi-function System, which is available from any computer lab on campus and also in the Greenlease Library. The system is brought to you by a partnership between Rockhurst University, Xerox Corporation and Equitrac. This system allows students to print, copy, and scan documents from any lab using one convenient device.
Intelliprint is a pay for print system, however each student is given 500 sheets per semester to use as prints or as copies. Scanning documents to e-mail or to the network is free. The pay for print system was designed to help make printing more reliable than ever and should cut back on wasted resources and abusive lab printing.
In the past lab printers ran out of paper and toner constantly as students were printing 1,000 of pages of documents that they would never even collect off of the printer. Then when the student who needed to print their paper for class tried to print, they couldn't. We ask that in using the new system that you be "Intelligent" about what really needs to be printed and what doesn't. You will be given $25.00 each semester to use on the Intelliprint System.
Each page copied or printed will debit your account 5 cents. If you use up all 500 sheets allocated to you, you will need to add money to your account before you will be able to print or copy again. For information on adding money, please click the "How to Add money to Your Account" link on the left.

STUDENT PRINTING
We have heard via our strategic planning focus groups and surveys that students were not satisfied with the printing capabilities in the campus labs. Concerns such as insufficient paper, printers not working, out of toner and the like. There was also high interest in wider availability of scanning and copying equipment as well. Because we were in the process of doing a campus wide survey of printers and printing we had 5 firms come in and assess our equipment. As a part of this assessment we went through a very exhaustive list of how much was printed. We discovered the following:
It became clear there was an equipment issue as well as an equity issue. Students were concerned about having paper and toner while others were abusing what was currently available with all students paying for it. As a part of our effort to address student concerns and provide better printing, scanning and copying capability across the entire campus we have implemented the IntelliPrint system with the following features:
- We had over 70 different network print devices and 27 copiers on campus.
- We had to stock over 60 different kinds of toner cartridges.
- One student printed over 4000 sheets of paper by January of last year.
- Multiple students copied textbooks via departmental copier codes they obtained.
IntelliPrint has been implemented to address laser printing abuse, waste and rising costs. It provides fast, secure and cost effective, laser printing, copying and scanning. A full description of IntelliPrint and instructions on how to use it can be found at: http://intranet/intelliprint/
- All students are given 500 sheets per semester to use as prints or as copies. Current balance is tracked via your student account and additional sheets can be purchased at any time for $.05/sheet.
- All large devices were upgraded to consistent Xerox machines around the entire campus to print, scan and photocopy.
- Ability to scan directly to email, either on or off campus addresses. As this doesn’t use paper, there is no charge and your available paper balance is not affected.
We are also keenly aware of the impact of printing and paper waste on the environment. This new program hopes to limit unnecessary waste production and energy consumption. To give an idea of the scale of our paper usage, if you assume that all Rockhurst students (approximately 3,000) use their entire quota of paper in a semester, it is equal to 7.5 tons of paper. This amount of paper requires 26 tons of wood, 288 million BTUs of energy and produces 42,676 lbs of greenhouse gases, 196 lbs of Sulfur Dioxide, 138 lbs of Nitrogen oxides – both ingredients of acid rain, and generates 143,000 gallons of waste water as well as 17,000 lbs of solid waste.
We hope you support our efforts in trying to provide the service you need while still being equitable to all. We also hope you will be careful with the amount you print.
