How to use DUO Authenticator (Faculty and Staff Only)
When you login to the portal after the update has been done on Monday, December 16th, you will be prompted to set-up your MFA options again. We recommend that you configure Duo push, and either use phone number, authenticator app or e-mail for your other MFA option. If you choose to, you can configure all 4 options but 2 is the minimum you must configure. We DO NOT recommend choosing security questions unless you do not have a smart phone. If you do not have a smart phone, you can still set-up security questions but then please reach out to the helpdesk before January 6th as that option is going away.
Below are the instructions for setting up Duo push with the portal. (Note: This is only available for Faculty and Staff members and if you already have VPN access this step may already been enabled for you, indicated by a green check mark next to Duo, and you do not need to follow the rest of these instructions.)
.) When you first login after the update, it should bring you to the new MFA settings page which looks like this. To begin the Duo set-up click the down arrow to the right of Duo:
.) Then click the Set up button:
.) It will then bring you to this page and you will click Get Started:
.) Choose the top option on the next page that says Duo Mobile:
.) Type in your phone number in the format it shows in the example then click continue:
.) Verify that the phone number is correct and then click "Yes, it's correct".
.) Now on your smart phone you will need to download the Duo Mobile app from the App Store for Apple devices or from the Google Play Store for Android Devices.

Once downloaded and installed on your smartphone click Next.
.) You will see a screen similar to this on your computer screen and then open the Duo mobile app on your smart phone. (NOTE: DO NOT TRY TO USE THIS QR CODE!)
.) You will then see this screen on your smartphone, click Continue:
.) On the next screen on you phone click “Use a QR code”.
.) You phone will ask you if you want to allow the app to use the camera on your phone. Click OK or allow:
.) Name your account to continue, click next.
.) Name it Rockhurst University Portal or something similar then click Save.
.) The system will now ask you if you want to practice. We suggest you choose Skip here:
.) This is a very important step to allow the application to send you notifications to your phone. Click Allow Notifications:
.) Your phone will prompt you to allow notifications. Be sure to click “Allow” and then click “Continue”.
.) The Duo push should now be complete and you should see the following screen. Click OK:
.) Go back to your computer and you should see the following screen. Click continue:
.) It will then tell you the set-up is complete. Click Login with Duo:
.) This should take you back to the MFA page where you will have to set-up one more MFA option. Preferably Authenticator app, Phone, E-mail. Security Questions will still be an option for now but again, we highly recommend you do not choose security questions as those will go away on January 6th and you will be prompted to choose a different option at that point. Once you have configured the other MFA option, you see this screen. Click “login here”.
.) This will take you back to the main login screen for the portal. You will authenticate again with your username and password and then you will see this on the computer. To use Duo, click “Use Duo”:
.) On the next screen you will tell the system to send your mobile device a duo push by clicking “Click here to Authenticate with Duo:”:
.) Then on your smartphone, you should have a notification from the Duo app that looks like this. Be sure to click approve assuming you just logged in:
.) Going forward when you login to the portal, you will just follow the steps labeled 23, 24, and 25 and then you will be logged into the portal and see the main landing page as usual:
